Trying to figure out where to stay in Los Angeles can be a bit of a pain. In a city that is filled with some of the biggest celebrities you can imagine, you could end up paying top dollar for certain hotels. During my trip to Los Angeles in 2014 I stayed in a hostel. While it was a great experience, if I were to go back I certainly wouldn’t be staying there again.
Los Angeles as a city is a fairly large and there are quite a number of things to do. It can be hard to choose where exactly to stay. Perhaps it’s closer to Rodeo Drive or Hollywood Boulevard or maybe even a sports arena. Of course where ever you choose there are going to be lots of options.
For the Sports Lover
If I were to go back to Los Angeles I would absolutely go to a sports event. It would be hard not to want to go and see the LA Lakers, LA Dodgers, or LA Kings. Even if you aren’t really into sports the teams are so iconic! The Standard Downtown LA is the perfect hotel for sports lovers. Located within walking distance of the Staples Centre and the Dodger Stadium, you can’t go wrong here!
For the Arts Lover
Looking back and as I’m reflecting while writing this post I’m actually wondering what it is that we even did in Los Angeles. Downtown L.A. has a number of iconic theatres (none of which I’ve visited) but if you are into the theatre Los Angeles would be as good of a place as any to see a show. Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles even looks like it’s from a movie set and is close to the FIDM Museum and Galleries, which is a considered a “hidden treasure” by some. The rooms are incredibly modern and unique – set up almost like bachelor apartments.
For the Fashion Lover
If I had a ton of money to spend I think one of the first things I would do is fly myself down to Los Angeles to go shopping. No one can forget that iconic scene from Pretty Woman where she walks up and down Rodeo Drive. That’s actually the reality for some people, and if that’s you then you will definitely feel love the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel. The hotel is only a five minute drive to Beverley Hills and and the shops on Rodeo Drive, meaning you will have all the shopping you could imagine at your finger tips.
For the Food Lover
Okay that’s the one thing I did do in Los Angeles, eat. There are some fantastic restaurants in the area for people to enjoy and the Hotel Wilshire is located close to many of them. You can enjoy The Roof on Wilshire restaurant in the hotel with celebrity chef Eric Greenspan or venture to Spago restaurant created by Wolfgang Puck which is within walking distance from the hotel. This modern and very comfortable looking hotel can be found right on Wilshire Miracle Mile and close to Beverly Hills and West Hollywood.
For the Culture Vulture
If you are looking to experience something a little different, and take in other cultures apart from the ‘celebrity culture’ in Los Angeles you can stay at the Miyako Hotel Los Angeles Hotel. Located in Little Tokyo you can really get a taste of the history of Japanese people in Los Angeles. I really like this because everyone always visits Chinatown but rarely is a place like Little Tokyo on top of peoples lists. The Japanese American Museum is within walking distance of the hotel as is the Grand Central Market.
What about you? Where have you stayed and loved in Los Angeles?
