Any traveller out there is probably sitting there thinking: I don’t need a household item. Whatever it is that you’re going to tell me I need I guarantee you I don’t.
Wrong.
Well, only wrong unless you don’t have a home base, in which case, I feel bad for you! Coming home to your own room, bed and stuff is the only good thing about not travelling. Anyways, I digress. You’re likely sitting there still super curious about what household item you need to buy immediately. Well, here it is: A mattress. No, not any old mattress though, an Endy Mattress.
I know what you’re thinking, what could possibly make this mattress any different from the ones you get in a store and can actually try out? I thought the same thing if I’m being honest. The boxed mattress crave has seemed to take on a life of its own over the past couple of years with so many competitors popping up everywhere. The one that has always stood out to me though has been the Endy mattress.
I’m not sure what it was, to be honest, that really attracted me to them but the fact that they are Canadian-made definitely has a lot to do with it. After looking into it further I discovered that Endy mattresses are designed, manufactured and shipped in Canada. Canadians are generally really proud when they know something is made in their own country, I’m no exception. I boast to anyone I meet while travelling that I’m Canadian and get excited when I hear others talking about Canadian products.
The waiting game
When we were asked to test out the Endy mattress a couple of months ago I almost shouted with excitement. Yes, it’s possible to get that excited about sleep.
Let me break it down for you.
When we bought a home last September we had no idea how much work it would actually take to get it even to a livable state. We moved out of our rental and threw out our old mattress thinking it was time to be an adult and buy a new one and we would have plenty of money once we moved in to purchase a new one. What an idiot.
While sleeping for 5 months on a pullout couch in my grandparents’ basement wasn’t ideal, we dreaded what was awaiting us upon move-in. Very little money and no mattress. What did we do? I kid you not, we bought a box spring and a small 3-inch thick foam mattress thinking that would suffice for a little while.
In all honesty, it was okay for me for the first little while, but poor Ben was so heavy he sunk through the foam and basically slept on wood slates for a month.
Then the big day came. We showed up home from work one day to discover the 3 boxes on our veranda. Even our neighbours couldn’t help but notice the giant maple leaf and red Endy design on the box. I was however surprised by how small the box seemed. I almost had to do a double take that the mattress was actually ours and a Queen. Rest assured it was.
The reveal
When we brought our box spring up to the bedroom it was like that scene in Friends where Ross is constantly yelling “PIVOT! PIVOT!” while Rachel and Chandler try to move a couch up a seemingly impossible staircase. We put a giant scrape on our wall and had a few choice words to each other through that experience.
Bringing the Endy mattress to our room, however, was a completely different experience. I carried it up on my own with no problems whatsoever. I mean, I’m strong but I’m not that strong for a traditional mattress!
We opened the box and inside was the mattress rolled up and covered in plastic. There’s a little note that comes with it, as well as some special cutting device. The note tells you how to open it so that you won’t have any problems with unboxing your Endy.
We put the mattress on the bed, cut open the plastic and rolled it out completely. Within seconds the mattress was up to full height! Honestly, I couldn’t believe it. It was like magic.
The Endy Pillows were even easier. Once we rolled them out and fluffed them up a bit we could tell they were too overstuffed. Here’s the best part though, you can take out the memory foam pieces to adjust the firmness of the pillow exactly to your liking.
The sleep
I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited for sleep if I’m being honest. It was our first time sleeping in a real bed that was ours for months and months. Talk about a good feeling.
The Endy mattress is perfectly firm but also perfectly soft. This isn’t a sales pitch although it sounds like one, I tell everyone who asks how much I love it! Now that we’ve lived through somewhat cold nights (we got it in April) and some of the hottest nights of the year, I can truly say I love my bed.
Another added bonus is that I am a seriously light sleeper. If I hear one sound, I swear I’ll wake up. Because the mattress is made to feel similar to a foam mattress, the movement isn’t felt throughout. This is the biggest blessing let me tell you.
All in all, if you haven’t guessed by now, we’ve been so happy with our Endy mattress. Everyone who asks I genuinely say it’s been amazing having it.
