One of the most beautiful places we’ve visited in England is the Peak District. There are so many gorgeous hikes, quaint English towns and epic views to see and take photographs of that to me, it’s a must-see if you plan on spending any time in the United Kingdom.
We spent 2 days in the Peak District in October. The weather wasn’t perfect but I honestly think that makes for way better photos. If you want to really get the best Instagram photo in the Peak District, then our suggestion would be to visit during the off-peak season. This way you won’t have to worry about people getting in your photos. Visiting in October we were basically alone the entire time!
So where are the best Instagram spots in the Peak District?
1| Mam Tor
Top on our list is Mam Tor. This beautiful hiking spot is definitely our favourite place in the Peak District. You can choose to do as little or as much of the hike as you want to. My suggestion would be to at least hike from the parking lot to the top of the hill and along the top a little bit. You’ll have beautiful views on either side with winding roads and rolling hills.
It doesn’t cost anything to actually hike the hill but you will have to pay for parking if you chose to park in the parking lot below. It’s not much, a couple of pounds if that.
2 | Thor’s Cave
Another spot we really loved venturing to and think is one of the best Instagram spots in the Peak District is Thor’s Cave. There are actually 2 spots that make for great photos: above the cave and outside of the cave itself.
The top of Thor’s Cave is great for views of the Peak District National Park. As you hike down from the top, there’s a path that will lead you to right outside the cave. We didn’t go inside because it was really slippery and I was pretty pregnant but I kind of wish we did, I can imagine how beautiful it is on the inside as well!
3 | Winnats Pass
Another great Instagram spot in the Peak District is Winnats Pass, a hill pass right outside of Castleton. The Pass takes you a bit by surprise as you drive into it because neither of us expected the area to be so beautiful, and large!
There’s a parking lot located at the bottom of Winnats Pass so if you don’t get the perfect picture while driving through it you can park your car and walk back. The road wasn’t too busy so there were some opportunities to get photos without anyone in them as well.
4 | Castleton
If you prefer quaint English towns for your Instagram feed than nature than you definitely have to make a stop at Castleton. It’s walkable from Winnats Pass and has a number of beautiful stone buildings and small streets to wander through.
There are even a few local pubs that you can eat at for some authentic pub food for those foodie ‘grammers as well.
5 | Stepping Stones Dovedale
You cannot leave out the Stepping Stones Dovedale if you are looking to get some great Instagram shots in the Peak District. The area around the stepping stones are also beautiful enough to take photos of with lots of cows, sheep and farmland.
Despite the stepping stones being slightly flooded during our visit, we still managed to walk over enough of them to get a photo! It is such a cool spot and when the area isn’t flooded it’s super easy (and pretty safe if you have great balance) to walk along the stones!
There you have it, all of our favourite spots for Instagram photos in the Peak District National Park.
