My first and only trip to Paris was almost two years ago. I can’t believe it. Seems like it was just yesterday I was getting out of the train station and walking onto the beautifully spacious streets. While Paris is beautiful it is also quite a large city and there are so many things to do. For me it felt a little overwhelming when I first visited. Although that could have been mostly because I only had 36 hours to visit this city and try and see everything I wanted to see.
I think the most important thing to mention is that you will definitely not see everything. It’s impossible. The city just has too much to offer that a few hours, days or even weeks just won’t suffice. Possibly one day I’ll move there but for now I’ll just try and visit whenever I can and discover something new each time!
Getting around:
If you are travelling in from the Charles de Gaulle Airport you will need to find a way to get into the city. For those on a budget, you can definitely take the A3 train which is about an hour door to door. If you’re not on a budget and prefer to have a much easier, relaxed and simple commute into the city consider an airport taxi. One company I have heard of that gets great reviews is T2 Transfer. They pick up from any airport in the area and are very reasonably priced compared to other companies.
Where to stay:
Of course there are way too many options when it comes to accommodations in Paris. Airbnb is a favourite option of mine especially if travelling with a group of people or if you are looking to save money on food. During our trip to Paris, we stayed in the 7th arrondissement and it was perfect for us. We were close to everything we needed to be (especially the Eiffel Tower) and the area is quite beautiful. For hotel bookings I generally use Booking.com.
What to see:
It’s hard to visit Paris without hitting up the major sites. While there are a number of them I’ve put together a list of my favourite ones from my trip to Paris. They are all fairly close to each other (and my fairly I mean we could walk to all of them within a day, or a day and a half).
- Notre Dame
- Louvre Museum
- Orsay Museum
- Place de la Concord
- Champs-Élysées
- Arc de Triomphe
- Eiffel Tower
- Champs de Mars
- Jardin du Luxembourg
- Sacre Coeur Basilica
What to do:
It’s not enough to simply visit the popular landmarks in my opinion. there are many other experiences you should have during your trip to Paris.
- Eat lunch on a Parisian Patio: Be warned though, the wait staff often really is as rude as they say they will be. It’s almost laughable, especially coming from North America where servers and customer service staff try their hardest to please you.
- Savour a croissant: You simply just cannot visit Paris without trying a melt in your mouth croissant. I’m not joking when I say I spend about 30 Euros in one bakery before leaving the city. That’s a lot of dough.
- Seal your love on the Love Lock Bridge: last time I checked they had taken all of the locks down from the bridge. However when Ben and I visited we actually ended up putting our lock on the wrong bridge at first! Which means there is a duplicate out there along the Seine somewhere.
- Stay up to watch the Lights show: The Eiffel Tower at night is not something to be missed. The way the lights just glitter and fill up the sky is so romantic, and beautiful. While it was pouring rain while we watched the Eiffel Tower light up, I would have loved to just sit on a blanket with a bottle of wine and a baguette and watch the lights show.
Hopefully this short post will help you and make your trip planning that much easier for your next trip to Paris!

Good list!
Just a couple notes: it’s the RER B that takes you into the city. Never heard of any A3 train (and been to Charles de Gaulle more than a few times). Also, if using AirBnb, try to book with “real residents” and not professionals who own 10 properties – it’s actually illegal to rent your flat for more than 3 months/year! Finally, the “love lock bridge” is the Pont des Arts – they removed the fences so that people would stop putting locks, as their weight was menacing the bridge from collapsing! So better take a selfie 😉
