Milwaukee, Wisconsin is not necessarily a destination that’s on the top of everyone’s list of places to visit in the United States. I mean let’s be serious, when you have choices like San Francisco, New York, Seattle, Miami, or Nashville it’s hard to justify a place like Milwaukee … or is it?
As I’ve mentioned many times before, I’m always on the hunt for destinations close to home. Easy enough to get to in a few hours by plane from Toronto. Milwaukee definitely falls into that category which is why I decided to do some research on it. It actually looks like quite an interesting place to go and visit!
For starters the beer …
After looking into it, Milwaukee has quite a number of local breweries. I’m not usually one to turn down a cold glass of beer so visiting in the summer and testing out a few of the patios would definitely be right up my alley!
For the baseball …
Like most American cities, Milwaukee also has a great baseball team. The Milwaukee Brewers (topical name) is no exception. I don’t think I’ve ever gone to see a baseball game other than the Toronto Blue Jays so this would be as good a time as any!
For the Third Ward …
I am a self proclaimed history buff. I love visiting new cities and seeing the history behind what makes that city special. The Third Ward is just that for Milwaukee. They have even taken old buildings and made them modern, the mix of old and new looks quite cool in photos!
For the rooftops …
I definitely didn’t know this before doing my research but Milwaukee actually has quite a number of rooftop restaurants and bars. If there’s anything I love more than a good drink, it’s one with a great view!
For the hotels …
Milwaukee happens to have quite a number of hotels, and some of them are actually quite unique! The Plaza Hotel for starters is actually a vintage hotel from the 1920s with apartment style rooms, sign me up! The Suites at North Shore have some of the biggest rooms I’ve seen in a hotel and it’s definitely never a bad thing to have more room. For central locations The Ambassador Hotel and The Astor Hotel are great options. Hotel Metro is probably one of the most luxurious hotels in Milwaukee with massive rooms that are beautifully decorated.
For the festivals …
Milwaukee is also home to one of the biggest festivals of the North Eastern states. Summerfest has around 800 artists (yes you read that right) that play over a span of eleven days. I don’t know if there is really anything better than combining summer, with amazing live music, and possibly a few beers thrown in!
For the German culture …
Another thing I never realized about Milwaukee was that it has quite a strong German presence. Now I can’t say I’ve ever been to Germany but I do plan on visiting one day soon so perhaps this will be a nice buffer to prepare me before my first visit!
Have you been to Milwaukee? I would love to hear about your experience!
