okko hotel strasbourg

During our trip to France we stopped in Strasbourg and stayed in the Okko Hotel Strasbourg. The hotel was an easy decision as the price was very reasonable in comparison to the other hotels nearby and it looked gorgeous!

Before getting to Strasbourg I thought the little city would be an identical image to the small town of Colmar we had just left. Many tourists will often visit one or the other (how you can choose I have no idea). Because Strasbourg was on our way as we journeyed up to Luxembourg, I thought it would be best to stay here. I’m so glad we did.

The two cities, in my opinion, are nothing alike. Sure they have buildings styled in a cross between Germanic and French style, and maybe they both have beautiful canals but that’s where I would draw the line. Strasbourg as a bigger city centre has much more going for it than Colmar.

The city itself is stuck between being considered a small quaint town and a metropolis. The Okko Hotel in Strasbourg is a perfect reflection of the city’s move towards a more modern feel. The building itself is quite spectacular as you stumble upon it, the dark exterior vibrantly stands out.

| All about modern comfort |

Immediately upon stepping into the hotel, you can see how modern the hotel really is. Upon entry, you are forced to take an elevator up a couple of floors to the lobby. The minute the elevator doors opened we were greeted by the host who helped us with our luggage and gave us a tour of the main floor.

The rooms are cosy with pretty cool details. After a long day of walking around, I can’t tell you how good it felt to get into a super comfortable bed. I fell instantly asleep!

I also loved the decor on the inside of the hotel. It was very Scandinavian. The furniture was well thought out and minimalist but it was also comfortable, which is often a hard thing to achieve when decorating in this style. I think my favourite spot in the entire hotel was the lounge area in the club. I could have stayed there looking out the giant windows at the world going by for hours.

Right beside the lobby is their dining/leisure area. Every day they have happy hour where you can help yourself to a glass of wine and all the little snacks you could eat. I couldn’t believe it. The food collection was really quite vast. Ben and I enjoyed a little game of chess before heading out for the night to explore Strasbourg.

I knew that if happy hour was any indication of how breakfast would look we were going to be alright. I was correct! There was a plethora of meats, cheeses, bread and pastries. It was actually a bit hard to tear ourselves away and go out exploring for the day. I mean really if there’s anything I love more than amazing coffee and a delicious breakfast, it’s discovering new places, otherwise, I’m not sure we would have left.

| Location, location, location |

While some would consider the hotel a little way out of the main centre, I consider this a good thing. It’s for this reason that such a stunning and modern hotel in an otherwise expensive city can remain reasonably priced. Plus, the views that you can get from some of the rooms in the hotel are unbelievable.

The Okko Hotel Strasbourg is situated right on a canal and a popular public transport stop. If you follow the canal along, you will find yourself within 15 minutes in the centre of the old town. Travelling to and from the train station is also easy with this hotel as it’s a direct tram which takes roughly 20 minutes.
