Planning a trip to Munich? You absolutely cannot miss the Louis Hotel. Located right across from the street from Viktualienmarkt, staying here will situate you within walking distance of all of Munich’s best attractions. Let’s be honest, I never stay somewhere that I haven’t researched to death. After pouring over reviews for the Louis Hotel, it seemed like a no-brainer.
The hotel itself is best described in 3 words: chic, Scandinavian and modern. The first thing you see before walking into the lobby is a beautiful bike with a basket outside. Something about this just struck me as incredibly Scandinavian. The cleanliness and interior design only supported that theory.
All of the 72 rooms are designed differently so you know you’ll never experience the same thing twice in this beautiful spot.
In the heart of Munich
Not only will you be located across the street from Viktualienmarkt but you are within walking distance from Marienplatz and around the corner from the Hofbrahaus. We didn’t have any problems walking around to absolutely everywhere we needed to be.
If you’re lucky, you may even get a room that faces the market like we did. It’s cool to sit at your window and watch the hustle and bustle of the street market below first thing in the morning.
In terms of restaurants nearby as well you won’t be for lack of options. The Viktualienmarkt has a few vendor stands that would be excellent for eating at. Likewise, you’ll find many of the cities most popular restaurants like; Ratskeller, Weisses Brauhaus and Dallmayr Delicatessen.
Added bonus’
If you’re looking for one of the best hotel breakfasts you may ever have, you’ve found it at the Louis hotel. I couldn’t rave enough about how delicious the breakfast was.
You will find a wide range of food suited for every dietary need and personal preference. My favourite was the warm, soft and buttery croissants. The restaurants is also located just above the market and if you’re lucky enough to snag a table near a window, you may never want to leave.

I’ll say this before and I’ll say it again, any hotel that’s worth raving about (for me) comes equipped with a hotel gym. Even though I do tons and tons of walking during my travels, it’s really important for me to stay get alternative workouts at the same time. While the Louis Hotel gym isn’t very large, I found myself being the only one using it and it’s plenty big enough for one person.
Getting your beauty sleep
The rooms are incredibly large when considering European standards. I couldn’t believe when I walked into our room at the Louis Hotel how much space there was, it was insane. There’s a little hallway as you first walk in to separate the rest of the room which is nice. We also had a large couch, a desk and a really good sized bathroom.
In fact, the tub in the rooms is definitely something to write home about. I absolutely love to take baths, especially after a long cold day walking around a new city. If you ever find a bath bigger than the one at Louis Hotel, you’ll need to let me know.
If you’re sharing the room with your partner or spouse there’s a window right near the tub. If you position yourself correctly, you can sit in the bath and have a beautiful view of the market rooftops at the same time!
The downside? I’m not sure if it was personal preference or because Ben got the flu during our stay in Munich but I found the beds weren’t as comfortable as I could have wanted. I’m also not one partial to hard mattresses so that could have been it. I would also strongly recommend ordering an extra pillow or two before bunking in for the night.
Would we recommend staying at the Louis Hotel? Absolutely! The views, the food, the location and the decor make this hotel a stunning one for your stay in Munich.
