How do you choose only 40 photos of the Algarve? In my opinion this spot is one of the most underrated in all of Europe. You don’t often here of people visiting the south coast of Portugal when making a visit. It’s often overshadowed by the more popular cities of Lisbon and Porto.
A couple of years ago we decided to make the trek south to visit the Algarve. I didn’t really know what to expect if I’m being honest. I had done some research or perhaps a lot of research I would have known how gorgeous the area is! I’m kind of glad I didn’t know because it was an amazing surprise.
The area itself is known for its beach and golf resorts. Don’t be fooled though, it’s nothing like what you’d find in the Caribbean. The area itself is located inside the Faro district and can get packed in the summer.
We visited in October (as you know we love traveling during shoulder seasons) and the weather was great. It also was a perfect time because the beaches weren’t bust at all but the weather was still warm enough to go swimming.
We situated ourselves right in the middle of the area so it was easy to get to all of the main attractions. Of all the places we visited in the Algarve our favourite was definitely the Benagil caves. The view from inside was absolutely spectacular. I would highly recommend getting one of the boat tours and making your way around the area.
You probably don’t need more than 2 days if you’re going there to see the sights. If you’re going for a relaxing holiday than I would suggest spending about a week here if you can find a good resort. We chose to stay in an Airbnb and it was perfect.
So tell us, will you visit the Algarve?
