It’s hard to choose only 35 photos of Basel, Switzerland because the underrated city is stunning. It seems like at every turn there is another opportunity for a photo op. Honestly, I wish we had have spent more than one day in Basel just so I could have explored more alleyways and hidden spots!
One of my favourite spots to take pictures in Basel was the courtyard with Basel Minster. The church itself was made from a Redstone material which made it pop out amongst the surrounding buildings. Make sure to take special note of the colourful tiles on the roof (they were hard to miss but our tour guide pointed them out). The rest of the area reminded us almost of Copenhagen with its white buildings and vibrant coloured details.
We found Basel to be a very walkable city. Everything we needed was steps from the hotel we stayed at, although we were very centrally located. I would encourage you to spend most, if not all of your time on foot. In any city, I find that’s the best way to see the unique and often hidden spots.
If you’re a fan of museums then you will definitely love Basel. With about 40 in the very small vicinity, I don’t think you could ever run out of new exhibits to see. While I’m not typically a museum kind of person, I can imagine there is something for absolutely everyone here.
I would also suggest making your way down and along the water. There are some pretty amazing restaurants (albeit expensive) with views that are hard to beat. On the south part of the bank, you’ll find steps along the water. These are perfect for bringing your own food and drink if you’re trying to save money. You can enjoy the views without the hefty costs.
Our travel guide had actually told us that in the summer many people will jump in the water after work to cool down. There are bags that you can buy that are completely waterproof and act almost as buoys. You fill them up with all of your belongings, hop in and they’ll stay warm. I can’t even imagine how cool the photos of Basel would be from an angle like that!
