Kelowna is located in the Okanagan region in the interior of British Columbia. This small waterfront town is home to some of the best wineries in the province, if not the country, and offers a relaxing, laidback atmosphere.
Last year we traveled here as part of our road trip from Kelowna to Vancouver. The town itself can easily be seen in a day or two but if you’re looking for the full experience I would spend a couple of more days. Between the mountains, the vineyards, the waterfront and the quaint downtown area, it’s not hard to see why many tourists choose Kelowna as a destination for their travels.
We tried to take advantage and sample at least some of the amazing things to do in Kelowna but honestly, our favourite was the Lavender farm. I may be biased already because I love lavender but there is just something so peaceful about walking through the purple fields breathing in the beautiful scent. Not to mention how mesmerizing it is to sit and watch the bees fly around doing their thing!
We also made sure to take advantage of the hiking. Given that we didn’t have too much time, Knox Mountain Park seemed like the best option. Located just outside of the city center (we drove), is the small mountain that you can hike up. It took us maybe 20 minutes to get to the top but honestly the views from above were beautiful. Standing on top of the mountain you overlook the water and the downtown.
Of course, you can’t go to Kelowna without visiting a vineyard. After doing some research we decided on Quail’s Gate winery and honestly were not disappointed. Not only were the grounds absolutely stunning but the food (and the wine) were absolutely delicious! It is obviously a popular spot because we were told to make reservations and I’m glad we did, it got really busy when we were there.
All in all the trip is amazing and definitely a place you need to add to your list when venturing out to British Columbia. I just wish we had more time to truly explore the surrounding area!
