I never thought much of Florence before visiting last year. It wasn’t somewhere I saw often on social media or had heard a lot of people traveling to. Yet, it has become one of my favourite cities in Italy. As you can see by the photos of Florence, the city is absolutely stunning.
As the capital of Italy’s most famous region, Tuscany, it’s no wonder that Florence oozes wealth and charm. One of the most iconic things you’ll see in Florence is the Duomo. While it’s free to get inside of the cathedral for your visit, some of the other buildings around the Duomo require tickets. I would say it’s definitely worth getting a ticket to see everything you can, the details are incredible everywhere you look and not worth missing.
There are tons of other things to see and do in Florence besides the Doumo though. One of my favourite things was seeing the real Statue of David inside the Bargello Museum. There was just something about seeing such an iconic artifact up close. It was also way larger than I thought it was going to be.
The best thing to do in Florence is really to just walk it’s the best way to get stunning photos of Florence. Get lost between the alleyways and enjoy all of the nooks and crannies of Florence. The buildings are absolutely gorgeous and every turn you find another wonderful building.
We visited in October and while the weather wasn’t perfect, it was good enough for us tour around. There were a few wet days but we dressed accordingly and were fine. The city itself was busy but not overcrowded the way I have found Rome to be.
When it comes to staying in Florence I tried to find places that were as close to the Duomo as possible. As one of the major cities in Italy, there are of course lots of different options of hotels or hostels depending on what you’re looking for and how big your group is. We found a gorgeous apartment located nearby that was perfect for our group of 5.
